Most professional moving companies in Kolkata have a restricted items list for safety and legal reasons. They typically do not transport:

• Flammable or hazardous materials (petrol, diesel, fireworks, acids, paints)

• Perishable food items (fruits, vegetables, dairy products)

• Valuables (jewellery, cash, important documents, passports, and currency)

• Liquor and narcotics

• Plants and pets

• Expensive electronics without proper insurance coverage (check with your mover beforehand)

For valuable items, it’s safest to carry them with you personally.

It is highly recommended to book your movers at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance, especially if you’re planning a move during peak seasons. In Kolkata, the busiest periods are between October and March (post-monsoon and winter) and particularly around the Durga Puja festival when many families relocate. Booking early ensures you get your preferred date, better rates, and sufficient time for the company to conduct a thorough pre-move survey. Last-minute bookings often come with premium charges or limited availability.

For a local move within the city, costs generally range from ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 depending on the size of your household. A 1BHK typically costs between ₹5,000 – ₹10,000, while a 3BHK can go up to ₹20,000 – ₹25,000. The final quote depends on factors like the volume of goods, distance between locations, floor level (with or without lift access), and additional services like dismantling/assembly of furniture. Always insist on a written estimate after a physical survey to avoid surprises on moving day. Don’t forget that 18% GST is applicable on all moving services.
